On March 3, 1913, a massive women's suffrage parade was led by thousands of people in Washington D.C. These included enfranchised women from other countries, the pioneers, working women, and male supporters. However, as it was the day before the inauguration of Woodrow Wilson, this parade started to jumble into a mess. Even the police who were in charge of the parade's protection took it as a joke. Despite this humiliation and violence, many of the marchers completed the route with perseverance. Although this march sparked a lot of controversy, it was a huge step towards the success of this campaign.

In January 1917, the National Woman's Party (NWP) and the Congressional Union (CU) picketed at the White House. Although many women were arrested, they still supported to the remaining women of the NWP who used lobbying and aggressive tactics to fight the government on the issue of women's suffrage. Eventually, President Woodrow Wilson was convinced and Congress passed the federal Woman Suffrage Amendment in 1918. Finally, the 19th Amendment was ratified and officially signed on August 18, 1920.
