“Interpretation is the revenge of the intellectual upon art.”

Susan Sontag, Against Interpretation, 1966

Widely admired for her essays, novels, films, and even conflicting views, Susan Sontag became an influence among artist, feminist, and LGBTQ communities. She was only 15 years old when she entered college and became romantically involved with photographer Annie Leibovitz. Her contribution to literature is what made her work widely known not only in the United States, but internationally. A few of her known works are her book Against Interpretation and the film Alice in Bed.
