The Roots of Feminism
What is Second Wave Feminism?
Second wave feminism began in the 1960s and went until the ‘90s. It was influenced by the Civil Rights and Anti-War Movements. Second wave feminism focused on sexuality and reproductive rights, getting rid of items that allowed men to oppress women like lipstick, high heels, and cleavage, and passing the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing social equality regardless of sex. These feminists were made up of women from different races and economic backgrounds unlike the Suffragettes who usually came from wealthy and upper middle class families.
