"Do women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum?” In the spring of 1985 seven women launched the Guerrilla Girls in response to an exhibition where there were only 13 women artists out of 165 artists, and the proportion of art by people of color was even smaller and there was definitely no work by women of color. The Guerrilla Girls responded by wheatpasting the poster shown above throughout downtown Manhattan.
