Sonia Sotomayor is the first Latina and third woman to serve as an Associate Justice in the Supreme Court. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University . She went on to Yale where she worked as an editor of the Yale Law Journal and she later received her J.D degree. From there, she became an assistant district attorney and slowly made it to become a judge in the District Court and Court of Appeals. On May 26, 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Sonia to a spot in the Supreme Court. Her nomination was a big triumph for all Hispanics and residents of New York. It was a motivation to everyone to see someone from the working-class and self-made to make it all the way to the Supreme Court. She has brought a fresh perspective to the legislative branch. To this day, she actively works as a Supreme Court judge.
